Colourful Antho Tomato with Origins in the USA
The ‘Indigo Pear Drops’ tomato is an exceptional variety developed as part of the Oregon State University breeding programme. It belongs to the Indigo series, renowned for its high content of anthocyanins – natural plant pigments with antioxidant properties. The pear-shaped fruits are striking in appearance, with a bright yellow to orange base colour and distinctive violet-blue shoulders, which deepen in hue with sun exposure.
Weighing approximately 10–25?g and measuring 3–4?cm in length, the fruits are ideal as snack tomatoes. Their fruity-sweet flavour with tropical notes makes them a standout addition to salads or enjoyed fresh from the vine. The plants are very high-yielding, and with proper care, can produce several hundred fruits per season.
Thanks to their robust nature and resistance to splitting, ‘Indigo Pear Drops’ is well suited for cultivation in the open ground, greenhouse or in large containers on balconies and patios. Plants can be grown with either a single or multiple stems and typically reach a height of around 1.5 to 2?m.
